Recent updates

  • We now are accepting applications for neighborhood grants through the Neighborhood Partnership Program. This is a $25,000 pot of money that can go toward smaller, neighborhood events and beautification efforts. Learn more about the program, and apply here.
  • Applications CLOSED Friday for our summer employment program, Topeka Way To Work. We received 100 applications. All applicants will receive an email including information about their interview, which are scheduled for April 24, 25 and 26.
  • City crews will continue through the first of this week to pick up the remaining items from the second Curb Your Clutter pickup Saturday. The large amount of trash and debris -- and prohibited items left on curbs in these neighborhoods -- prevented us from finishing in the four-hour time frame Saturday. The final round will be this Saturday, April 22, in two NIAs.
  • Media relations director Aly Van Dyke has accepted a job with the City of Austin. Her last day will be May 5.
  • Monthly reports from our SeeClickFix Topeka citizen reporting app are available on our website. There, you can see total tickets opened and closed during the month, as well as a rundown of the most reported issues and a breakdown of issues reported by Council district.
  • In the first quarter of this year, Water Pollution Control crews cleaned 8,432 storm inlets, 31,272 feet of storm lines and a total of 228,252 feet sanitary sewer lines. Water crews have repaired 102 water main breaks so far this year.
  • Fire crews responded to 356 calls for service this week, including 10 fires and 199 EMS/Rescue calls. Year-to-date, TFD has inspected 46 fires.
  • We have several updates on street projects:
    • Work on SW Clay continues as sections of concrete pavement and curb/gutter were placed this week.
    • The storm water installation on SW Belle also continues, but we are running into several utility conflicts.
    • Most concrete should be finished on the 10th Street Bridge next week.
    • Construction on SE Golf Park is expected to start April 17.
    • We opened bids for Oakley and received proposals for Clarion Woods.

AmeriCorps team arrives

Our nine volunteers with AmeriCorps NCCC Sun Team 7 arrived last week, and work started today. They will be here through July 8, working for the City's volunteer project, Topeka Habitat and Shawnee County Parks and Rec.
